We just stopped by to have lunch on our way to Lofoten. Sabrina and her colleagues at the restaurant are absolutely fantastic. Plus the views are amazing. If you stop by say hi from us: Angela & Barbara

Oh my Lordy , we have been on holiday for 5 weeks and this by far was the most beautiful place to stay . Staff were excellent and super friendly and helpful even offering to turn off the lights in the restaurant when the northern lights came over . We stayed in a beautiful old part of the hotel which was spectacular . Would definitely stay again . Dinner and breakfast were both beautiful and the manager the next morning went out of his way to give us some amazing travel tips for heading on . The best place we got to see the aurora

So very disappointed we arrived late had been travelling since 4am quick check in then to dinner we had advised of our late arrival and booked dinner, it was basic tasty not sure what it was as nothing to say one of our party gluten intolerant, there was rice and salad bits so ok, quick drink after dinner then off to rooms, friends were in a cabin/shed on water front a junior suite also, we were in room 302 in main house supposedly a junior suite! They had to trudge through deep snow as no path cleared to door we were up steps and to the right to a separate couple of doors then our room not at all what we had expected tired so went straight to bed, no drink facilities no sockets near bed no luggage rack/drawers/wardrobe just an old sofa not sofa bed and a couple of bed stands no headboard no mat for wiping boots or rug just cold lino floor/cold apart from bathroom floor/wall panelling spilling apart don’t think room had seen a paint brush for 10+years. On waking in the morning after a chilly night waking often no extra pillow or blankets available, warm bath needed 6.30am no plug for bath or basin so showered hair over bath and made do, at breakfast asked for different rooms, friend room smelt shower was mouldy and really cold in bathroom, bed was hard to get in and out of as like a cot bed, no sofa decor very tired, female on reception was very nice however said they were full and couldn’t offer us other rooms, so said we’d arrange elsewhere and left her to speak the manager re a refund, we went to pack sort different accommodation came to check out, after speaking with her manager on the phone they could change our room by moving someone else I explained we’d already packed and booked/paid for elsewhere as she’d told me no joy earlier, then spoke to manager on phone he explained I should of got dressed and walked through the snow to the restaurant/reception at 10pm and 6.30am to get teas and coffee and plugs (even though staff said they wouldn’t be open for breakfast until 7am) didn’t get my point that the rooms should of had these items in place, I then asked about the other facilities on our confirmation which we hadn’t had he explained the “suite” part for us was the other ground floor rooms in the house, these were open to all and not what I would say was a private suite, our friends had no other room so not sure what their “suite” was, eventually he agreed to refund our dinner as we’d had such a poor experience however refused to refund the 2nd night we’d booked even though we’d been told to get somewhere else as they couldn’t re room us, he didnt accept responsibility for this, there was no reasoning even though I showed him our confirmation of what we should been staying in, so so disappointed as I’d been looking forward to staying here the most after seeing the pics and reading other reviews. We feel they’d given our rooms to others as thought we weren’t coming then just given us the keys for rooms that had been closed all winter we went onto stay in the Scandic hotels in Svolvaer & Sortland which were exceptional just stunning couldn’t find a fault.|Just such a shame the owners/management at Sandtorgholem don’t realise just what they have it could of been amazing, such a beautiful setting with so much potential.

Pros:
Cool place with interesting location. It looks old but it is well maintained.

You got free parking spaces, good value for the price, you can also eat the dinner which was decent although a bit expensive.

Breakfast is ok for one day.

We got amazing aurora on the sky from the courtyard.

Staff was friendly with very good english.

Cons:
Dinner a bit expensive but not so many options on that area, as it is remote.

We had been fortunate to pass this lovely hotel in its superb waterside location a couple of times over the years, whilst working on the cruise ships and I always thought that it looked a great place to stay. Finally we were up in the Nordland for a Lofoten area holiday and we booked a nice room in the Pakkhuset building of the Sandtorgholmen hotel, after email discussion with the team. Location is just under 30 mins easy drive from the airport on route to/from Lofoten or points North & West, and is recommended as a unique and characterful place to stay. Lots of history in this former coastal trading station and there is plenty to look at around the buildings and immediate area. The staff were friendly, welcoming and good to deal with throughout, led by the good management of Petter. The room was clean with great views over the nearby hills & mountains, the Tjeldsundet and its close passing shipping. An efficient shower, amenities and facilities with a comfortable bed. We slept well.||Breakfast is included and dinner (a well priced extra) is served within the attractively decorated and interestingly sloping dining area, which has a well stocked bar and comfortable inside & outside deck seating with great views. We enjoyed the beer and wine available. Buffet breakfast and dinner, very adequate choice, tasty and well prepared. Friendly, efficient and pleasant service from the team who are very visible.||Somewhere very unique to stay and we liked the history, displayed artefacts and quirkiness of the buildings. Lovely location, clean and comfortable with nice staff. Well Done to you all. Thoroughly recommended.

Restaurant review mainly. Hotel is lovely. Great interesting historic old building and very comfortable bed. Good bathroom. Lovely friendly staff. We really liked our brief one night stopover here. ||However we had dinner and it was very strange. Was supposed to be a buffet but there were so few guests that they made it table service instead. This meant that - as usual in a restaurant - you get the quantity they give you rather than your own choice helping yourself. They gave us enormous helpings which we couldn’t eat. There was first a massive prawn, feta and sundried tomato salad, with bread. So far so good but we ate about 1/3 of it. Next came our choice of Lasagne and Bacalao. Lasagne was huge, twice the size we expected and stodgy with a very odd but bland flavour. It would have been nicer with the leftover salad but that had been removed and presumably thrown away? Other choice was Bacalao which is supposed to be very flavourful with garlic and chilli was also very bland and the cod was in very small chewy pieces. So it was a dish of vaguely fishy tomatoes really. These two dishes were accompanied by a bowl of curry flavoured quinoa and vegetables, which did not “go” with either dish. It was a challenge and we could not finish any of it. Lastly we were brought two little puddings which were like fruit cheesecake and were normal sized. For such a huge amount of food it was not expensive working out at (the set price of) about £21 each - very cheap for Norway - but the food waste was a lot and the flavours bizarre. This may be just us. Others have commented the food is delicious which is why we booked to eat there. Food opinions are highly subjective.

We stopped for one night at Sandtorgholmen before taking our flight from Narvik airport (half an hour away by car). We tried their "glamping experience" : two large tents for the five of us, set right by the seaside, cumfortably fitted with real beds, armchairs, lighting and even a heater and electric plugs. It was overall a great experience for children and adults. We also tried the little sauna cabin right beside the tents.|There were a few minor drawbacks though, that may upset some more than others : though we could use the main building's toilets 20 meters away, the showers were much further away. Also the tents let in daylight (which comes before 4am even end of August), and there are large boats passing by, great to watch but not if they wake you up at 3am. Fortunately the hotel provides masks and earplugs...|We also had buffet diner and breakfast, nothing to rave about but prices were reasonable for Norway, and overall the value is very good.|Service was nice, though a bit sloppy at times.

My partner and I were fortunate to win a 3 night stay at Sandtorgholmen Hotel, and wow we had a beautiful holiday. It was scenic, peaceful and the staff were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed walks around the beach, seeing animals and enjoying quality time together in the cozy living area. We were also provided with home cooked meals that were delicious. Our room had ocean views so every morning, we woke with fresh air and a beautiful view. The rooms were warm with the heaters and bedding, and the amenities are of high quality. ||All of the staff are lovely and friendly, it has a family-feeling to it. A special mention to the manager, Petter, for his exceptional service. Every day he checked in to make sure we were okay and were enjoying our stay, so there was a personal relationship. On the the last day, the bus driver did not stop for us en route to the airport but Petter was kind enough to drop us off so we did not miss our flight. ||We are from Australia and New Zealand but we can't wait to visit Norway again and stay at Sandtorgholmen Hotel. Thank you for having us
