I am not even sure where to start with this review and wish that there was a rating higher than 5 stars for this one. We traveled to Nikkahuset with my immediate family (which includes 2 x 16 year old boys and a 13 year old girl) and my extended family (which includes my 80 year old father, mother, aunt and uncle). I was a little uncertain of what we would find here and how I would navigate all of these ages and personalities in one house and on a farm deep into Norway. What we experienced cannot be compared. I will break it down here as best as I can.
1. Leif - THE BEST. Each one of us absolutely adored him and felt he added to the amazing experience of staying in his grandmother’s home. His passion for the house, the land, the food, the activities was infectious. We found ourselves retelling his Nikka stories throughout the stay and after leaving as well. He went out of his way to assist in making our stay impeccable down to driving us to see Trollstigen which was closed to drivers for the season and which he told us must be seen regardless! Awesome in every way.
2. The house. It’s just insane what can be done with a 250 year old home when someone loves it and has the desire to repurpose everything in it to offer a beautiful experience for visitors. The fact that all the info on the house says it only has one bathroom is misleading! The best bathroom on the property is a stones throw from the house in the barn and I found myself waiting in line to use that shower and facility each day because of it’s insane views and gorgeous layout.
And I have to mention the beds here as well - truly best sleep on the trip. Comfortable, clean, well kept, cozy rooms!
3. The sauna and jacuzzi. Bonus bonus bonus. My children (and my husband and me) would sprint to the glacial waters in the river running through the backyard, then sprint back to warm up in the sauna and jacuzzi. Nothing can beat this experience. We learned quickly that the Norwegians know what they are talking about when it comes to cold plunges and reheating after.
4. The farm. Leif said very clearly “the farm is yours to use”. And use it we did. Vespa rides. Electric scooters. Axe throwing games (or as Leif said “Viking games”). I went for a run each morning with a perfect “track” to follow and feeling safe and content.
5. The food. Leif takes pride in providing meals that his grandmother taught him to cook and they don’t miss. Well crafted and delicious. We overly enjoyed each one down to the dessert.
I will highly recommend the journey to Nikkahuset to anyone traveling to Norway. You will find that it makes your entire vacation.

Leif is a super host! Very welcoming, friendly and helpful. He made some recommendations for Alesund and Valdall that made our stay in the area even better.
The house is perfectly located between key attractions (like Trollstigen, Geiranger, etc) yet in a very peaceful and quiet area, surrounded by beautiful nature.
Leif did an extraordinary job with refurbishing the house by maintaining the original norwegian design but also adding a touch of modernism. He paid attention to every detail (from curtains to lightning or original pieces of furniture) and decorated the place to make you feel cozy and comfortable.
The cherry on the cake is the relaxation area that consists of a sauna, jacuzzi and shower with beautiful views. You can definitely unwind here next to a glass of wine after a long day 🙂
I highly recommend this place and would love to return soon to this hidden gem!

Einfach nur wunderbar…. Wir waren hier um zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr abzuschalten. Das hat super funktioniert, denn der Ort ist grandios, der Gastgeber ein sehr aufmerksamer und guter Gastgeber. Er hat sich täglich um uns gekümmert und jeden Wunsch auch im Nachhinein gelöst. Der Gastgeber war immer erreichbar. Bei unseren Reifen Problemen im Winzer hat er uns stundenlang geholfen, eine Lösung gefunden und uns auch hier nicht alleine gelassen. Zu Silvester war es auf dem Hof auch dank seiner Aktivität für alle ein Erlebnis, hier in der Abgeschiedenheit Feuer, Feuerwerk und gute Laune… danke dafür, wir kommen wieder.

Just wonderful.... We were here to switch off between Christmas and New Year. This worked great, because the place is terrific, the host a very attentive and good host. He took care of us every day and solved every wish afterwards. The host was always available. With our tire problems in the winemaker, he helped us for hours, found a solution and did not leave us alone here either. On New Year's Eve it was an experience on the farm also thanks to its activity for everyone, here in seclusion fire, fireworks and good mood... thanks for that, we will be back.
