We’ve had a lovely relaxing long weekend here, the views of Hardangerfjord & Folgefonna Glacier are stunning.
Just now the fruit trees are coming into bloom, the hosts make their own plum jam. Our cabin is cosy and charming, and has everything you need for a comfortable and authentic Norwegian cabin experience. The farm is from the 1600’s and so is the cabin.
There are lots of things to do nearby, Nordheimsund has lots of good places to eat, and Øystese has lovely beaches. Check out Google maps. Our hosts are very friendly and helpful. I would love to come back.

Rebecca and Olav were lovely hosts to our family of 6- children’s ages are 15, 13, 9, 8. Rebecca took us on an informational tour of their working sheep and fruits farm and shared interesting bits of history of both the family farm, established in 1792, and surrounding Hardangerfjord. We surveyed a variety of apple orchards (Rubensted, Aroma, and Discovery) to view and taste their differences, toured each building and learned of the historical/ modern uses of each, learned a bit of the juicing and pressing process of the apples, went up the mountainside to feed the sheep (even bottle fed a lamb!) and ended with an apple juice tasting. Possibly the best apple juices I’ve ever tasted, and had they not sold out of them, we probably would have loved the raw juices even more! What I can’t describe is the natural beauty all around or the sound of the rivers and creeks throughout the property. Rebecca even baked us some homemade cookies and cake to have with some coffee as we sat in their beautifully preserved cabin overlooking the fjord. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time and conversation with the hosts and we didn’t even realize 3 hours had flown by because it felt like a visit with friends. We wish this sweet family all the best in their future endeavors. You will not regret spending an afternoon on this idyllic farm!

This beautiful farm is a hidden gem in Øystese! The artisan cider, made from apples grown right on the farm, is incredibly delicious. Watching the sheep graze added to the charm. (When not out to pasture)

The best part of our visit was our guide. She is fluent in both English and Norwegian and has an incredible amount of knowledge about the farm, cider-making, and local history. Her passion and expertise made the tour truly special, along with the old farm house buildings.

If you’re looking for a relaxing escape with great cider and a knowledgeable guide, this farm is a must-visit!

• Book a tour in advance.
• Try all the cider varieties.
• Wear comfortable shoes.
• Bring a camera for the beautiful views!
