I had a LOVELY experience here and wish I could stay a few more nights. I stayed in the 8-bed hostel and got to know everyone here quite well, and they were genuinely wonderful! As a 22-yr old solo traveler, it was perfect. The views from outside are absolutely stunning, so much so many of us stayed up until past midnight talking and watching the sun set against the mountain cliffs — it’s also just a 10-min walk down to the center of town where you can take good photos alongside the river. The staff was lovely and the driver of the shuttle is a great guy, totally recommend. The receptionist was lovely and seemed to be dealing with some nasty American tourists who were bickering with her. I don’t understand the negativity of the previous reviews, which initially worried me about coming here — I had a WONDERFUL experience and would return in a heartbeat. The dorms and bathrooms are also spotlessly clean and it’s one of the few hostels I’ve stayed at where everything truly smells *fresh*! Overall, 10/10 experience and I hope you give your business to this lovely hostel. Just be aware about the reception desk’s limited hours and their lack of a response during those hours — being in a place like this requires some independence and you shouldn’t have to be coddled every step of the way to still receive a great experience. That being said, if you’re already enjoying the Norwegian countryside and are mature enough to handle being somewhere where things aren’t necessarily available 24/7 given the remoteness, this hostel will be exactly your vibe 🙂

Here are some friendly comments/suggestions from me, a Scottish guy. (Every hostel in Scotland has these facilities 😜)

- There are no comfy seats anywhere in the hostel. (Note to owners: There is room for two sofas by the windows in the dining room 😉).

- Kitchen: There is no recycling, and only four mugs (with broken handles). Since you ask people to label their food out would be great to provide pens and sticky labels. Basic provisions such as salt, oil and tea would be great.

- There is no drying room for wet clothes.

Das Winjum liegt nicht günstig zu Bus, Fähre und Bahn. Wir hatten daher im Vorfeld mehrmals Kontakt aufgenommen, um eine Taxiabholung vom Aurland Pier zu buchen. Das hat nicht geklappt und wir mussten die Strecke bergauf laufen mit den schweren Rollkoffern, wie andere Gäste auch. Beim Check-In war zufällig Personal anwesend (meistens nicht), wir erhielten eine SMS mit dem Code für die Zimmertür.
Die Dorms sind sauber und es gibt ausreichend Platz (Vorhängeschloss mitbringen!), leider fehlt es an Ablageflächen und Haken. Die Küche ist in Ordnung und sauber. Die drei Duschen sind sehr geräumig und ein echter Pluspunkt. Ein weiterer ist natürlich die phantastische Lage und der Blick über den Fjord. Balkon und Aufenthaltsraum haben leider außer Tischen und Stühlen keine Einrichtung, man wünschte sich z.B. ein Bücher- und Spieleregal und und und.
Wer zu Stegastein ohne Auto möchte, hat die Auswahl, entweder 600 Höhenmeter zu laufen oder es mit dem Fahrdienst des Winjum zu versuchen. Auch der ist schlecht organisiert und bis zum Schluss war unklar, ob wir ihn nutzen können (wir konnten: fast 40 Euro pro Person im Minibus).
Auch die Abreise nach Flam war ein Problem. Personal war weder persönlich noch telefonisch zu erreichen. Folgt man einem QR-Code zur Taxi-Vorbestellung, muss man 10 Seiten mit Fragen ausfüllen und erhält dann eine Email, dass man diesen Fragebogen erfolgreich eingereicht hat, aber keine Taxi-Reservierung. Da ist dann eine Telefonnummer angegeben, die aber nicht erreichbar war. Also sind wir wieder mit den Rollkoffern nach Aurland gelaufen und haben auf den Bus nach Flam gewartet. Der Wagen vom Winjum-Fahrdienst fuhr gleichzeitig leer in diesselbe Richtung.

En general la habitación se encontraba en una casa donde el suelo pese a estar prohibido entrar con calzado estaba muy sucio. Los baños compartidos estaban también muy sucios y la cocina era tan pequeña que era imposible poder usar con otra persona. La casa al estar construida de madera se oía absolutamente todo. Cada cosa que se caía al suelo, cada paso, cada susurro, todo. Además nuestra habitación saba a la cocina y al salón por que lo que se escuchaba a la gente hasta altas horas de la noche. El propietario te cobra si sales mas tarde de las 10 de la mañana. La habitación era muy pequeña. Este guesthouse para nosotros ha sido una pesadilla. Me queje al propietario y me trato muy mal. Caro para lo que es.

Very nice view through dirty window but that's all... The common sanitary are very unconvenient. There is only two toilette and shower by gender, which is far too less for the whole camping site. In addition, the toilette are in the same room as the shower...which mean you cannot go to the toilette if someone is taking a shower and locked the door...so good luck... And as if this was not enough one of the toilette has a broken locker and if you look in the comments, this locker seems to have been already broken for ONE YEAR...how could they not replace/fix it It really feel like this place is sucking your money either nothing in exchange. It really doesn't worth the price !
